Google Cache Checker is a free cache inspection tool that checks whether Google holds a cached copy of a webpage and shows the date of the last cached snapshot. The cached version reflects the page as Google last saw it, offering a direct window into what the search engine's crawler actually encountered. For pages that changed recently, the snapshot date tells you exactly how fresh Google's view of your content really is.
This is invaluable for diagnosing indexation and update issues. If your live page changed but the cache still shows the old version, Google has not re-crawled yet — explaining why new content is not ranking. Comparing the cached page with the live page can reveal rendering problems, blocked resources or content differences that confuse crawlers, such as text that appears to users but is invisible to search engines. One note: Google removed the public "Cached" link from search results, so snapshots are less consistently available than they once were — but where a cache exists, its date remains a useful signal of crawl freshness.
It is the date Google last saved a copy of your page during a crawl. A recent date means Google visits frequently; an old date means the page is crawled rarely or has crawl issues worth investigating.
It depends. For rarely updated pages like evergreen guides, an older cache is normal. For frequently updated pages like news or product listings, a stale cache suggests Google is not re-crawling often enough — improve internal linking and update frequency.
When a snapshot is available, the tool shows its date and status. Full cached-page viewing depends on what Google currently exposes, which has become more limited since the public cache link was retired.
New or rarely crawled pages may simply have no snapshot yet. If an established page has no cache, check for crawl blocks, noindex issues or server errors preventing Googlebot from fetching it.
